What is Your Favorite Ed Tech Tool?

The use of technology has become an essential function in the classroom.  It is imperative for teachers to incorporate the use of technology in their classrooms to keep their students engaged and excited about learning.  In the article, "What is your Favorite Ed Tech Tool?" Paul Wurster polled members of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) to see what Ed Tech Tool they preferred to use in the classroom.

It was a bit surprising to see that the top preference was to use internet tools and resources such as e-mail, search engines, Creative Commons, wireless access, and video on demand.  These results were a bit contradictory to the article by Martha Irvine, "Email has become the new snail mail".  However, when it comes down to the classroom, teachers have to be flexible and use what their students best respond to.  Personally, I would prefer using the Interactive Whiteboards and Projectors because they can be used in a variety of ways.

I am interested in your views on this topic.  Check out the You-Tube video below on Interactive Whiteboards and please respond to the poll.

  1. Great post!!! I think that whiteboards are excellent; I really enjoyed watching the demonstration-such great features.

In addition, I like the poll that you added to your blog. Although, I am a little torn between the first two options. I believe that all students should learn the basics first and then they can be advanced to different aspects of the Internet such as wireless access and video on demand.

One thing I find interesting is that most students already know how to do an enormous amount of things on the Internet and are totally clueless when it comes to productivity. What are your thoughts?

  2. I think the most effective tool for any classroom will be left up to the teacher and the assessment conducted by that teacher to determine which tool is best. After reading the articles, it appears that it is a matter of preference in some cases, but that's what I like about this class it is forcing us to look beyond the obvious.

  3. Thanks for including the You-Tube video on the interactive whiteboard in your blog. I enjoyed watching it. I am learning more everyday about the use of technology in the classroom. Figuring out which technology is going to be the most effective in individual classrooms is going to be a challenge for me.

  4. This post is awesome Jennifer and so is the you-tube. I think that the Interactive Whiteboard keeps the students very excited about learning. I work at a middle school as a Secretary and about two years ago, I went to this teacher's classroom and saw the whiteboard in use for the first time. I was amazed at some of the things he was doing on this big white board. The students were all raising their hands and he even had a student up there working out a problem. It would have been so nice if I would have had the opportunity to enjoy some of this advanced technology when I was in middle and high school.

  5. Love your post and the video! I have seen the interactive whiteboard in action and it is amazing how engaged the students are. It a great tool for the students and teachers. It allows teachers to really take a concept or idea that they they are teaching and bring it to life for the students. I think every student should be exposed to this type of technology but unfortunately that isn't the case.
